Welcome to Little Fishes

ABOUT OUR SWIM SCHOOL
Welcome to Little Fishes, our award winning Swim School in the North Western Sydney suburb of Oakhurst.

Little Fishes Swim School was founded in 2010 by Trevor and Robyn Fry, and is run today by their daughter Renee and her husband Nathan. As a family owned and operated business, we know what families want and need. Children need a fun learning environment that fosters encouragement and feelings of success. And parents need a stress-free environment that allows them to enjoy a break from the daily grind. Trevor’s aim was to create a family owned swim school that welcomes families with fantastic, safe facilities including a playroom and a coffee shop, and he achieved this at Little Fishes.

At Little Fishes, our friendly and highly trained Austswim and CPR qualified staff provide children with water familiarisation, water confidence and stroke technique as well as swim to survive for children aged 6 months and over. Our Swim School is endorsed by Royal Life Saving Australia, Austswim and Swim Australia.

Our pool uses the latest technology in filtration by using an Ozone filtration system, instead of chlorine, due to its superior qualities. Ozone removes bacteria, body oils, urine, deodorants, soaps, viruses and minerals, while also having the advantage of being healing to damaged skin, does not cause allergies, dry skin, or hair discolouration.

Little Fishes Swim School offers local, professional services at fair prices. Contact us today and we’ll help you chose the best course for your child.

OUR SWIMMING LEVELS

Kid

At Little Fishes we love babies and have designed a baby program for babies to explore and discover the delights of playing in water. The half hour classes focus on water confidence as well as water safety skills. Safe entry and exits into the water, floating and recoveries, kicking, breathing and submerging readiness are all taught in an enjoyable environment. Baby swimming strengthens the bond between child and parent and can aid in muscle growth, balance and mental development. children gain confidence in and out of the water and social skills with other children and adults are heightened. These classes are gentle and are in no way distressing to the child. Come, sing and play games with us and have lots of fun.

Baby Fish 1

  • Children 6 months – 18 months.
  • 30 minute class.
  • Ratio of 6:1 children to teacher.

When children turn 18 months, they will progress onto Baby Fish 2

Baby Fish 2

  • 18 months – 2.5 years.
  • 30 minute class.
  • Ratio of 6:1 children to teacher.

When children turn 2½, they will progress onto Toddler Fish

Kid

This transition class is sometimes a little scary so we only have 3 children per class, and mum and dad can sit on the side of the pool watching and giving plenty of support and encouragement. Toddler level is all about learning to be in the ” big pool” without mum and dad. It’s a gentle learning experience for children to learn about water safety, taking turns and getting confident in how their body works in water at this age. This transition is usually fairly smooth and teaches children to take instruction from someone other than their parents, while giving them the opportunity to learn from their peers and develop social skills.

  • Transition class (going from a class with a parent to just an instructor).
  • 2.5 – 3 years.
  • 30 minute class.
  • Ratio of 3:1 children to teacher

We allow parents to get in water if it is absolutely necessary but try to encourage them to stay out if they can. We tell parents to talk to their children for about 3 weeks before they turn 2.5 years about going up to the “big girls/boys” so they are a little familiar with what is going to happen. Get the parents to watch a class with their little one which has no parents in it.

Instead of a list of skills, there will be a sheet of water proof paper that each child’s PB’s will be recorded onto. The teacher must always carry a stop watch (provided) and can record the swimming time for each stroke. This way, the child can see how they have progressed in this level with their times.
